Bucket Mouth

Looks like Paul had some "Aqua Therapy" with Dr. Pungo!

What a fish. He said it gave him a ride in the kayak.
Finally a picture to prove the big fish story!

Fishing from the Pier

Not all fishing can be done in a clear stream with a dry fly. I had a chance to wet a line with my nephew on Baffin Bay in South Texas this past Friday.

We taught some dead shrimp how to swim and even landed a few small croaker, black drum and of course hardheads.

It was nice to swap stories and plans for the future and to enjoy the salt breeze on a nice spring afternoon.

Scouting Trip

"I have a dream"

It involves fishing in the South Branch of the Raritan River in Central New Jersey in an area known as the Ken Lockwood Gorge that is managed for fly fishing.

I got close to it this month while I was in NJ. My trip was too quick for fishing but allowed just enough time to swing by the area on the way back to the airport. I got to stop in at Shannon's Fly Shop in Califon and picked up a few local dry flies in the #20 and smaller size. The water looks fishy! My fishing buddy Joe has promised to do some investigation before my trip up in June. I can't wait!

Fishing After Work

There's nothing quite as relaxing after work as "Standing in a river waving a stick".

Here is a small Provo Brown that took a caddis larva that I tied several weeks ago.

The fish weren't really active but I think those that were feeding were eating only tiny mayfly nymphs and the occational midge. I didn't see any midge larva under the rocks but there were some adults on the water. We were fishing below the Jordanelle Dam and it looks like a promising spot for the future.

We tried the spot in Heber but we were not the first one there and the fish were either not there or spooked. We did see a fat muskrat and EC warmed up his casting arm with this backcast.
