Tie one on

I've got the bug - so to speak. I'm itchin' to go fishin'! I tied up a few bugs tonight and can't wait to get them in the water. Shown are streamers made using olive and green-grizzly saddle hackle, and some streamers made of peacock sword and herl. There are also some attractors made with grizzly hackle on each end of a black and silver body. I'm told these are called Scofield Specials. They look special to me!

I'm Jealous

My nephew has a summer job in Montana. Can you believe it? He will be working in Bozeman near some of the finest fishing in the country. I had to post this picture my wife took of me fishing in the Henry's Fork two years ago when we visited Yellowstone. We arrived in Island Park at about 7PM and after dinner, I got to fish until 10:30PM. Of course the owner of the local fly shop told me that they were releasing so much water into the river for the farmers that no fish were biting.
Who cares? It's about the fishing - not the catching!

Besides I got this cool picture out of the deal!

My brother Ben told me that he needed some flies for his wife Fran who has just acquired a new fly rod. Here are a few I tied for her. Good luck Fran!

Central Texas Fishing

I love my wife! We took a trip to Central Texas for our 21st anniversary and she insisted that I bring my fishing gear and try my luck in the local pond and creek. We stayed at the Feathered Horse Ranch B&B which is a new place being built by some friends at work.

I had a blast one evening and the next morning catching perch, sunfish, Guadalupe Bass and even a catfish!

The perch loved small dry flies

This catfish took a caddis larva that I made from a pattern given to me by a friend. I call it the "Broadstone Special".

These small bass were great fighters on my 5 weight rod.

I did finally pull out the ultralite and snapped on a white Roostertail just to confirm what I suspected...deadly!

Even this sunfish managed to get hold of it - what a lure!

I'm ready for the next 21 years!
